D&D WITH ERIC THE DM #19: Questions
Eric the DM
Hello Adventurers! Its so good to see you all again! How have your quests been going? Looks like you have been getting some good healing! Stay safe out there!
Please come and sit by the fire. I’ll prepare us some mulled wine and some provisions. Take a break and we will chat a while!
Today I thought we might talk about questions. Players and DMs alike will always have questions! Here are some good questions to ask for all adventurers!
“What is going to happen in the future?” This is a good question for DMs and Players. The best adventurers are the ones we plan out long term! This isn’t only smart to think about but fun! What are your short-term and long-term goals? If you want something like a magical item, spell, weapon, etc., what is your plan to get it? Does your DM know you want it? If you have an enemy or something else haunting you in game what are you doing to take care of it? Talk with your fellow gamers about your plans for the present and future and make them a reality!
“How will my character mature?” All characters have a life span. We all hope it will be long! But like children we must help our characters grow. What do we want to be when we grow up to level 20? Do we want political power? Status? Magical or physical might? A hero’s welcome? These things don’t just spontaneously happen! By asking yourself what you want to turn into you can start taking the steps to make those dreams come true! Let your fellow players and DM know too! You will always be stronger together!
“Is my equipment as good as it can be?” As our characters mature their equipment needs to as well. Weapons, Armor, Spells, Magical items, even your clothing should be updated as you grow. That +1 dagger probably just won’t cut it like it did at level 1. Think about what you need and what you WANT! A good rule of thumb is to think about this every level up and especially every 3 levels. By keeping your gear up to date, you will be setting yourself up for success!
“Am I having fun?” This may seem like a silly question, but it is perhaps the most important! Especially for new gamers. Many new players will begin playing a new character and quickly realize that it isn’t what they expected. And instead of saying something they “grin and bear it.” Because they think it will cause a problem if they do. DO NOT DO THIS! The SINGLE most important thing with gaming is to be having fun! If you are playing a character you don’t like SPEAK UP! Your fellow players and your DM would all much rather have you happy and playing something you like than something you do not like! The only person you will be disappointing is yourself if you do otherwise!
These are only a few of the MANY questions to ask yourself as a gamer. What questions do you have? I want to know! Post your questions in the comments below! I’m here to answer your inquiries!
